ARTIST ROSTER
Ethereal Singer-Songwriter for The Modern Age
Káyyin Tatoyan is a rising female singer-songwriter whose music is a clash of dark and heavy electronic that meets beautiful classical orchestrations. In 2009, Kevin Bronson of the Los Angeles Times wrote, "Think of Tatoyan as a baroque Bjork. If her haunting vocals don’t dazzle you, her odd music will — counterposing, as it does, weird electronics, sound effects and loops with the very organic tones of a French horn and cello. Seeing her is like watching an Escher come to life. Almost-mathematical repetition gives way to chaos; melodies build and build yet resist payoff, like stairways to nowhere." After winning over the Los Angles scene, Tatoyan decided to take a break from performing and moved to Brooklyn at the end of 2010 to finish writing material for her debut full length.
2011 is a huge spring board for Káryyn, one that revolves around the words "collaboration" & "exploration". She is currently recording an EP/LP with producers Matt Boynton (Bat For Lashes, MGMT) and Abe Seiferth (LCD SOUNDSYSTEM) exploring her unique and evolved sound. She is also working with award-winning composer, Kareem Roustom, on the soundtrack for writer/director Cherien Dabis' follow-up to Amreeka (winner of the FIPRESCI prize at Cannes 2009/nominated for 3 Spirit Awards), May In The Summer, which just won the 2011 Sundance NHK award. On top of all that, Tatoyan is also writing music for Oscar-nominated writer/director Jose Rivera's (Motorcycle Diaries, On The Road) up-coming film, Celestina.
